Subsection 14 of Section 6 of the original

Ordinance has been repealed because Ordinance No. 20 of 1903

transmitted in my Despatch No. 545 of the 27th. ultimo renders

the definition of the City of Victoria unnecessary. 03.4

The original definition of external air

has been found to be defective in that the length of the

dimension measured at right angles to the window was not

stated. The intention was that the length should be 13 feet.

It was not intended that the air space of a verandah or bal-

cony should be counted as external air. These points have

accordingly been made clear in the new definition. Finally it

was not the intention that the external air space should be 13

feet in width. That is the usual width of a Chinese house at

the back of which the kitchen is allowed by the principal
